Kids looking to shoot some hoops and receive some close instruction this summer can do so by attending Hardwood Summer Camp.

Hardwood Summer Camp, which will be led by former Ironwood Ridge High School and Pima Community College basketball coach Karl Pieroway, will be held at Immaculate Heart High School. The school is located at 625 E. Magee Road.

The camp, which runs in one-week sessions for three weeks, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, beginning on May 28.

This coed camp is $135 per camper, per week.

Each day of the camp will involve a warm up and some ball handling work, along with some open floor group games.

“From there we break them off and do station work,” Pieroway said. “We’ll have a station for ball handling, a station for rebound and a station for shooting. We are going to teach kids how to play. They aren’t going to sit there and play five on five for the entire time. They will learn a lot along with the fundamentals.”

In addition to hands-on practice, Pieroway said he likes to bring in high school basketball coaches for an occasional 30-minute lecture for the kids.
