Kevin Jepsen held the Padres scoreless in the ninth inning, giving Salt Lake two wins in the four games in Tucson. It was a back-and-forth game early, with the Padres holding leads of 1-0 and 3-2 early on.

Jedd Gyorko hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, his 11th Triple-A home run of the season. After Salt Lake scored twice in the top of the third, the Padres went ahead again on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Hermida and an RBI double by Nick Hundley. The two fourth inning tallies were the final Tucson runs to cross home plate, as Salt Lake scored six unanswered runs from the fifth inning on. Gyorko was the only Padres player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Four Salt Lake players had two hits each, including Luis Jimenez, who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Padres starter Bear Bay suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in six innings of work. The Padres went 4-3 on the homestand and travel to Las Vegas for an Independence Day matchup with the 51s (Blue Jays affiliate).
