High school football

Who will rise to the occasion this week on the high school football fields of southern Arizona?

Welcome to week nine of the high school football season, better known as the third-to-last week of the regular season.

Tonight’s schedule includes a pair of heavyweight fights—with a 5-2 CDO squad hosting undefeated, 7-0 Salpointe Catholic in Oro Valley.

Across the metroplex, Marana and its 5-2 record square off against 5A Southern region leader Cienega, who is 6-1 this year.

The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks (3-4) head to the south side to square off against a 4-3 Sunnyside squad, looking to rebound from last week’s seven-point loss to Marana.

The Catalina Foothills Falcons (3-4) host Casa Grande High School (5-2) in what’s likely a must-win game for Jeff Scurran’s squad.

The Mountain View Lions will look to build on their back-to-back wins, over Cholla and Empire, against Rincon/University at home.
