The Marana High School track and field team hosted a meet on April 3 against Sabino and Cienega high schools.

Leading the way for the Marana High School girls’ team was junior Sydney Madrid who beat a Sabino competitor in the high jump with a final jump height of 4-feet, 8-inches.  She also breezed by her competitors in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.6 seconds and in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16 seconds.

Contributing to the Marana girls’ team was Shalise Borden who placed first in shot put and discus.

The Marana boys team was led by Austin Soszynski who placed first in shot put and discus and by Devin Samorano who won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.30 seconds.

Without his top boy and top two girl athletes competing in the meet, head coach Camron Dozier was pleased with the effort of both the teams.

“I’m happy with the results and effort that everyone gave,” said Dozier. “People stepped up and filled in the spots that they needed to.”

For the boys’ teams, Sabino scored 86.5 points, Marana 54.5, and Cienega finished last with 35 points.  On the girls’ side, Marana came out on top with 76 points, Cienega with 57.5 and Sabino with 41.5.
