The Pima Community College softball team (8-4, 5-3 in conference) had rallies that came up short in its doubleheader on Saturday against Glendale Community College.

In the first game, the Aztecs scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning but fell 5-4 after Victoria Mariscal (Douglas HS) flied out to end the game. Noelle Medina hit an RBI single in the 4th inning to tie the game at 1-1 but Glendale scored four runs in the 6th inning. In the 7th, the Aztecs got infield RBI singles from Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet) and Shawna Comeaux (Sabino HS). Another run scored after Medina drew a walk. Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) dropped to 4-3 on the year as she finished with seven strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs left two runners on base in the 7th inning and lost 7-5 in the second game. Alyssa Guevara (Cienega HS) flied out to end it. Stephanie Vejar (Tucson Magnet HS) suffered her first loss of the season (4-1) after pitching five innings and striking out two batters. Alvarez put the Aztecs on the board first with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Glendale came back and scored two runs in the 3rd inning and five runs in the 5th to take a 7-1 lead. The Aztecs responded in the bottom of the 5th by loading the bases with no outs. Alvarez came to the plate and hit a grand-slam to right-center field to cut the Glendale lead to 7-5. The Aztecs left two runners on base to end the inning. Alvarez finished the game with five RBIs and came in for relief. She pitched two innings with three strikeouts.

The Aztecs will be on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Phoenix to play at South Mountain Community College. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
