Motorcycle crash kills 2
Ty Bowers/The Explorer, Pima County sheriff's deputies on Thursday investigated a fatal motorcycle crash at Ina Road and Westward Look Drive. Two men in their 20s had been riding a Sukuzi motorcycle westbound on Ina when they struck a Toyota Corolla that was turning left from Ina onto Westward Look. The motorcycle's driver died on the scene. His passenger died later at a nearby hospital.

Two men in their 20s died Thursday morning after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car at Ina Road and Westward Look Drive.

The crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9, according to Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Hanke.

A blue Toyota Corolla driven by an elderly woman was traveling eastbound on Ina Road when it began to make a left turn onto North Westward Look Drive. The Suzuki motorcycle, which was heading westbound on Ina at a “high rate of speed,” struck the car "head on," according to Hanke.

The 24-year-old driver of the motorcycle, Jeffrey Ruben Bupp, died at the scene. His passenger, Justin Michael Maynard, 22, was taken to a local emergency room where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Corolla was taken to the hospital with "unknown injuries," according to Hanke.

The accident shut down westbound Ina from First Avenue to Oracle Road.

The mangled Suzuki motorcycle remained on its side in the intersection at 10:30 a.m. The blue Toyota was parked on the northwest corner of the intersection, its hood crumpled and its airbag unfurled and deflated in the driver’s seat. A short distance to the west, the body of the motorcycle’s driver remained against the curb, covered by a blue sheet.

Both men on the motorcycle had worn helmets, according to Hanke.

The helmets remained on the street.

Authorities continue investigating the accident.
