Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robert Taylor is being lauded for his quick responses that saved two lives – those of an infant and an octogenarian – in less than one hour on Feb. 3.

At 11:33 a.m., the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 9200 block of West Coronado Drive in Arizona City regarding an 8-month-old infant who was choking. The parents panicked and inadvertently gave the wrong address. As Taylor neared the address provided to the call taker, he was flagged down by the parents and ran into their home. The young infant was not breathing so Taylor began CPR. The child began to draw breaths and was transported to a local hospital. The infant is expected to make a full recovery.

At 12:12 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call regarding welfare check in the 13900 block of West Virgo Drive in Eloy. A concerned resident requested that police check on the 83-year-old man who was living in a vehicle outside of a trailer. Taylor arrived on the scene but initially could not find the man. The deputy then observed a hole in the ground about 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep about a quarter-mile away. It appeared to be a welling system.

Taylor could hear a faint call for help as he approached the hole. He observed the elderly man lying on the ground at the bottom. The deputy used a ladder to climb down to the man, who appeared to be barely conscious, suffering from frostbite and have breathing difficulties. Taylor lifted the man and carried him out of the well. Medics responded and treated the man, who was later transported to a local hospital. He, too, is expected to make a full recovery.

“Deputy Taylor undoubtedly saved two lives. (His) actions show the professional and caring nature of the men and women of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, “Sheriff Paul Babeu stated. “I am very proud of the immediate life saving actions taken by Deputy Taylor.”
