McCain and Dempsey

Sen. John McCain said Thursday he’ll hold up the nomination of Army Gen. Martin Dempsey for his second term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff until Dempsey answers McCain’s questions about U.S. military intervention in Syria.

The Republican senator from Arizona argued that Dempsey, during his reconfirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, had not fully answered his questions about the counsel he had given President Barack Obama about the future role of the U.S. military in Syria.
