Introduction to Archery

Join us every Tuesday and Thursday, 4 - 5:30 p.m. for a six-week session on archery basics. Designed for ages 8 - 17, this course provides instruction on archery safety, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship, sportsmanship, different shooting styles and equipment. Equipment will be provided. This is a great first step to the "Junior Olympic Archery Development" program.

Session one is Sept. 9 - Oct. 10, and Session two is Oct. 29 - Nov. 21. Cost is $50 per session, or $5 daily drop-in fee. Courses are held at the Oro Valley Archery Range at Naranja Park, 660 W. Naranja Drive. For more information or to register please visit orovalleyaz.gov or call 520 229-5050

Second Saturdays at Steam Pump Ranch

Visitors will enjoy tours of the restored 1870'sPusch Family Ranch House and information on its history in Oro Valley.

10 - 11 a.m.

Guest speaker Joyce Rychener will give a demonstration on traditional desert gardening. Participants will learn what it takes to be a successful gardener in the Sonoran Desert, including the planting and harvesting of crops. Children will make a basic weaving craft out of natural materials.

Second Saturdays at Steam Pump Ranch are held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month. Steam Pump Ranch is a 15-acre historical site representing a living piece of the history of Oro Valley's settlement, and it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A master plan has been developed for the property, outlining additional steps for restoration and historic preservation, and the Town of Oro Valley has recently installed permanent restroom facilities and a parking lot.
