Last week, Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary School student, Matthew Glasshoff, won the Marana Unified School District’s spelling bee with the word “stipple.”

The sixth-grader won in the 13th round after correctly spelling “diagnosis” after second-place finisher Tressah Moon incorrectly spelled it and then correctly spelled “stipple.”

Glasshoff and Moon, who attends Picture Rocks Elementary School, will be accompanied by third-place-finisher Thomas Rood and fourth-place-finisher Sam Herschler, who both attend Tortolita Middle School at the Pima County spelling bee on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Marana Middle School’s Grace Effis, who finished fifth, will attend the county spelling bee as an alternate.
