‘Beyond Cancer: Finding Spirit’ event this Saturday

Cancer survivors, family, friends, caregivers and the Tucson community are invited to attend “Beyond Cancer: Finding Spirit,” presented by Community Cancer Connections at the University of Arizona College of Nursing, in partnership with the UA Cancer Center. 

The event will take place this Saturday, Sept. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort, 245 E. Ina Road. The focus of the 2017 event is “finding spirit” after cancer treatment. Presenters include keynote speaker Miguel Flores Jr., LISAC, CSOTS, CEO/president of Holistic Wellness Counseling and Consultant Services. The event offers the following to promote healthy living and long-term wellbeing: 

Activities: cancer to dancer, mindful meandering, exercise class; Lectures: science of relaxation, overcoming stress biology to promote wellness in survivorship, embracing the power of intent and belief; Therapies: acupuncture, healing touch, facials, zero balancing, Reiki and massage.

UA Valley Fever Center for Excellence awarded $4.8 M to develop vaccine

The Valley Fever Center for Excellence at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Tucson was awarded a four-year, $4.8 million grant for research to speed development of a vaccine to combat Valley fever. The funding comes from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a unit of the National Institutes of Health. 


Gaslight Music Hall hosting after school GLEE! Program

The Gaslight Music Hall recently announced an after school show choir performance class that will feature the music from GLEE! The class will focus on taking hit songs from the radio and turning them into fully theatrical numbers consisting of singing and dancing.

The camp (for kids aged 8 to fifteen) begins, Sept. 19 through Nov. 14, every Tuesday and Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m., Contact Kids Camp Director, Samantha Cormier, at to register or have any questions answered.
