Eighteen years ago, mothers and grandmothers residing in Sun City Vistoso gathered to sew for their families. Today, the group, known as Casa Amigas, sews to benefit those in need, and this Sunday, they’ll host a fundraiser barbecue to help a local children’s charity.

On April 10 from 3 to 5 p.m., Casa Amigas will serve hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and all the fixings to benefit Casa de Los Niños. To add to the fun, the Canyon del Oro High School Jazz Ensemble will perform.

“We are hoping for a success in raising money for Casa de Los Niños,” said Gay Russell, who is coordinating the event with Julie Balogh.

Casa de Los Niños supports the prevention and intervention of child abuse in Tucson.

Tickets are $15. Only 300 will be sold. The net proceeds from the event will go directly to Casa de Los Niños.

Tickets are on sale in the Sun City Vistoso social hall from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today and Friday.
