A group of residents looking to recall Oro Valley Vice Mayor Mary Snider and Councilman Joe Hornat did not meet the Sept. 22 deadline to submit petitions.

Conny Culver, chairman of the OroValleyRecall.com group, got recall petitions from Town Clerk Julie Bower on May 25. From that date, the group had 120 days to collect 2,615 signatures for each council member.

Culver, a former member of the town council, and the group of Oro Valley residents were not happy with Hornat and Snider’s spending, votes to increase the town’s utility tax and for their consideration to turn the town’s transit services over to the Regional Transportation Authority.

Snider and Hornat are in the second year of a four-year term.

Upcoming election

While Hornat and Snider will not be facing a recall election, packets are currently available to any Oro Valley resident interested in running for Town Council in the regular March, 2012 election.

Councilmen Bill Garner and Barry Gillaspie are up for reelection, while Councilman Steve Solomon is facing his first election.

Solomon was appointed to the council in a majority vote last year.

Bower said Garner and Solomon have already picked up election packets.

Oro Valley resident Brendan Burns has also picked up a packet.

To get on the Primary Election ballot in March, potential candidates must collect a minimum of 428 signatures, and a maximum of 856 signatures.

Signatures must be registered voters living inside Oro Valley Town limits.

Candidates will be able to turn nomination into the clerk’s office between Nov. 14 and Dec. 14.
