Flooded cats

The HOPE Animal Shelter located at 8950 N. Joplin Lane, near Cortaro and Interstate 10 in Marana, succumbed to unusually heavy rain during yesterday’s monsoon storms.

The floors of the building quickly filled with muddy water and the roof began to leak. The back of the building and the road to the shelter were damaged, the latter making it almost impossible to get in or out, and trapped staff for many hours until flood waters receded.

According to HOPE, cats climbed up onto high shelves and dogs scattered into rooms and bathrooms in attempts to stay dry while staff focused on managing the flood waters and keeping the animals safe. Luckily, the HOPE team made it out, but damage to the building has left 75 animals displaced until cleanup and repair efforts can be completed.

HOPE animal shelter is now currently requesting monetary donations that they can put towards cleaning, repairs, and supplies needed to get back up and running. Donations can be made online at hopeanimalshelter.net/donate
