Last year, the Park Place Guitar Festival rocked with 25 performances, 800 kids creating paper guitars, 30 music- and instrument-dedicated exhibitors and a most righteous air guitar competition.

This June, the second annual event will be amplified with amazing performance talent from four stages and intriguing instrument exhibits, presented by Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance at Park Place, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd.

The event hits its first note with Guitars and Growlers, a free opening act where attendees can sample beer and food while jamming to Johnny Faber and the Road Kings on Friday, June 13 at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the free festival will showcase rows of music exhibitors, kids’ activities, live performances and Tucson’s only Air Guitar Competition.

Guitar clinics, ranging from how to care to how to compose for the guitar, will inspire many musicians.

Visual art will meet musical art as students paint and decorate acoustic guitars in a variety of themes, coined as GuitART. Coordinators will lead students through the artistic processes.

The Air Guitar Competition provides an outlet for inner rock stars to perform on the festival’s main stage in front of a cheering audience. Judged by local celebrities, the competition allows even the most amateur of guitarists to win prizes. Expect crazy outfits and even wilder dancing.
