A new spa will open in November at the popular intersection of North Campbell Avenue and East Skyline Drive with to open at least one other location in Tucson early next year.

Spa One will be a full-service spa offering facials, massages and manicures, said Dar Vasseghi, chief operating officer.

The owners of Spa One realized that to succeed they needed to reach a wider clientele in an area with several high-end spas like the Westin La Paloma Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, 3666 E. Sunrise Drive and Loews Ventana Canyon Resort and Spa, 7000 N. Resort Drive.

For a monthly fee of $12, Spa One members will receive services for a discount, Vasseghi said. A massage that could cost $100 elsewhere would cost members around $36.

Non-members can receive treatments within the spa but the discount will not be as substantial, said Brandy Witte, marketing director for Spa One. A massage for a non-member would start at about $54.

For the 4,000 square foot spa to be successful in the Foothills, Vasseghi said it was important to offer services to customers and change the way people think about spas.

Spas are not something to be enjoyed once a year and they are not just for special occasions, he said.

"It can become a lifestyle," he said.

For a customer to reap the benefits of a facial or a massage, it is something that must be done frequently, he said. And the reason many customers don't receive the services on a month-to-month basis is because of the high cost. So by offering services at a lower price, Vasseghi hopes customers will come back to Spa One regularly.

The owners of Spa One are already enjoying the rewards of a member-based spa, Vasseghi said, with many interested clients, and by next year there will be as many as five Spa One locations throughout Tucson.

By January, a second location at East Grant Road and North Wilmot Road should be open.

"Our philosophy is to bring health and balance and wellness to every individual," Vasseghi said.

Vasseghi is confident Spa One is unique.

"It's never been done quite like this before," he said.

To understand the clientele and to keep up with the competition, owners spent about one year researching the area and the customers.

Spa One will be a place for non-spa dwellers to feel comfortable, he said.

Customers that have substantial bank accounts should not be the only ones who can afford a massage and facial regularly, he said.

"That's not fair," he said, "to be healthy and balanced only if you're rich."
