Right turn only
Around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2, an OVPD officer working as part of the department’s DUI Enforcement Unit at North Oracle and West Rudasill roads was heading northbound when he saw a black Dodge make a left-hand turn ahead at an exit designated for right turns only.
As the vehicle passed, the officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and sole passenger. The officer wrote in his report that he indicated a “moderate” odor of intoxicants and that the driver’s eyes were red, watery and bloodshot.
After identifying the occupants, the officer initiated roadside sobriety testing with the driver, which resulted in several indications of possible intoxication. A preliminary breath test was administered, which resulted in a .102 reading.
The man was then transported to the OVPD main station for a blood test and was ultimately charged with DUI to the slightest degree and failure to obey a traffic control device.
