The second production in a series of free summer Theater in the Park performances is this Saturday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Marana's new Crossroads at Silverbell Park.

"Broadway Classics" is presented by The Arizona Rose Theatre Company with the help of the Town of Marana and Jerry Bob's Family Restaurant at Silverbell and Cortaro.

Familiar shows like "The Music Man," "Les Miserables," "Guys and Dolls" and "Oklahoma" have "shaped Broadway throughout the decades," said Brandon Howell, managing director for The Arizona Rose Theatre Company. The shows "round out a repertoire that has made Broadway the entertainment Mecca it is today."

The entire cast from the first Theater in the Park production in June is returning to this show, and there are additional performers who bring the cast size to 15. They're all local residents, ages 6 to 42, who take the stage "for the love of performing," Howell said.

A crowd near 800 people attended the first show. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.

Papa Murphy's is selling pizza and ice cream bars, Copper Kettle Popcorn is vending popcorn and cotton candy, and soft drinks and candy are on the menu. Local musician John Corrin performs the opening entertainment, followed by music from the DeGrazia Spanish Trio.

"We are looking forward to this week's production and are confident that everyone will enjoy themselves just as much as they did at the first show," Howell concluded.
