All meetings are held at the AMVETS 770 Post, 3015 S. Kinney Road: The post meets on the first Sunday of the month (Aug. 5) at 10 a.m.
There are no official days to fly the flag during the month of August, though there are several noteworthy days to keep in mind this month: Thursday, Aug. 2 is the 28th anniversary of the invasion of Kuwait (Operation Desert Shield); Saturday, Aug. 4 is the 228th anniversary of the establishment of the United States Coast Guard; Sunday, Aug. 5 is the 54th anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin; Monday, Aug. 6 is the 73rd anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb, at Hiroshima; Tuesday, Aug. 7 is Purple Heart Day; Thursday, Aug. 9 is the 73rd anniversary of the dropping of the second atomic bomb, at Nagasaki; Sunday, Aug. 12 is the eighth anniversary of the AMVETS Post 770 Riders’ Chapter; Tuesday, Aug. 14 is the 75th anniversary of the end of the Battle of the Aleutian Islands; Tuesday, Aug. 14 is the 73rd anniversary of the surrender of Japan, ending World War II; Wednesday, Aug. 15 is the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal; and Monday, Aug. 20 is the 243rd anniversary of the establishment of Tucson.
August is a slow month at the Post. Come on over to keep cool and have some fun with ongoing activities: Bingo, Sons Of Breakfasts, Pool, Karaoke, Fish Fry, Queen Of Hearts Raffle and maybe some last minute activities. The Riders will be hosting a meal on Saturday Aug. 11.
The Ladies Auxiliary always starts gathering needed school supplies for our poorly funded schools this month. A list of needed school supplies will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the post. If you are unable to go shopping, consider a monetary donation, call the Post at -882-6304 for more information. All activities are subject to change without notice. The AMVETS Post/Club is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. (earlier at bartender’s discretion) Monday through Saturday. On Sundays when breakfast is served, the Post/Club opens at 9 a.m. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 11a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is no happy hour on the weekends or on major holidays.
