AMVETS 770 Post

The AMVETS 770 Post, located at 3015 S. Kinney Road.

All meetings are held at the AMVETS 770 Post, 3015 S. Kinney Road: The Post meets on the first Sunday of every month (Oct. 7) at 10 a.m.; The Ladies Auxiliary meets on the second Sunday of the month (Oct. 14) at 9:30 a.m.; the Sons of AMVETS will meet the Monday following the Post’s monthly meeting (Oct. 8); and the Riders meet on the first Thursday of the month (Oct. 4) at 6 p.m.

The only official day to fly the flag in October is Columbus Day (Oct. 8). 

Other days of interest include:17th anniversary of the start of Operation Enduring Freedom (Oct.12); 243rd anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Navy (Oct. 13); 56th anniversary of the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis (Oct. 16); the 237th anniversary of the surrender at Yorktown (Oct. 19); 74th anniversary of Leyte Gulf (Oct. 23); 11th anniversary of AMVETS Post 770 moving into its current building (Oct. 27); and Navy Day (Oct. 27).

The Sons Of AMVETS will be serving breakfast on the third and fourth Sundays of October from 9 to 11 am. The Color Guard chili lunches restarted in September. Come and enjoy some great chili and premium grilled hot dogs on Thursdays, Oct. 4 and 18. Meals are served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 6, there will be a walk in Reid Park to support ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The registration fee is $25.Call the Post for more information at 883-6304.

Although, Monday, 8 Oct, Columbus Day is a federal holiday, it is not considered a major holiday, so there will be bingo and happy hour at the Post. There will be a band on Friday, Oct. 12, starting at 8 p.m. Put on your dancing shoes!

On Saturday, Oct. 27, a chili cook-off will start of 4 p.m.  Call the Post at to register. Following the chili cook-off there will be a Halloween party starting at 7 p.m. Make sure to wear your spookiest costume.

The AMVETS Post/Club is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. (earlier at bartender’s discretion) Monday through Saturday. On Sundays when breakfast is served, the Post/Club opens at 9 a.m. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 11a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is no happy hour on the weekends or on major holidays. Check the bulletin board on the front of the Post for special events/meals. If you are a veteran or the close relative of a veteran, consider joining AMVETS Post 770.
