Officials from Cox Communications and the Pima County Board of Supervisors have been chosen to lead a public/private economic development partnership through Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities.

Lisa Lovallo, vice president and systems manager for Cox in Southern Arizona, and Sharon Bronson, vice chairwoman of the supervisors, are serving as TREO co-chairs for a year-long term, a release said.

The new leadership structure "reflects the balance needed between the private and public sectors to advance regional cooperation for higher wage jobs and opportunities for Southern Arizonans," a TREO release said.

"The private sector does not operate just within jurisdictional lines. A private company strategically operates within market areas it feels can contribute to the viability of a product or service line, generate a customer base, or attract and retain employees. We will be that region," Lovallo said.

"TREO's bold, collaborative economic development approach creates a strong business advantage with industries considering relocation. Companies want prospective communities to speak with one regional voice, and that can only come from public-private partnerships where everyone is at the table with common goals," Bronson said.

"The energies and insights of Lisa and Sharon will allow us to be very creative and strategic as we build on the foundation of TREO's successes," said Joe Snell, TREO president and chief executive officer. "In addition, this new board structure is consistent with best practice models across the country."

TREO's newly expanded board of directors began terms on July 1. Among those on the board are Hany Massarany, chief executive officer of Ventana Medical Systems and head of Roche Tissue Diagnostics in Oro Valley, and Scott Still, president of Sargent Aerospace and Defense in Marana.
