Three memory care facilities are currently under construction in Oro Valley

Three memory care facilities of varying sizes are either in progress or planned in Oro Valley, and scheduled to be completed by year’s end or early in 2015.

Catalina Springs Memory Care is under construction at 9785 N. Oracle Road, at Desert Sky Road in the Oracle Vista Centre, and planned as a 65-bed facility that will operate full time, 24 hours a day, to provide specialized care to individuals with memory disorders and their families.

Oro Valley Town Planner Roosevelt Arellano said the 18-foot tall building sits on 2.6 acres and will encompass 27,670 square feet. Two internal courtyards at the site will total 5,000 square feet.

“They are expecting 14 staff members,” Arellano said, “which is reflected in their parking counts. The project already has its final site plan, architecture and public art approved, and has received a Conditional Use Permit.”

The facility will have 33 parking spaces to meet the town’s zoning code, which is Neighborhood Commercial (C-N), and landscaping buffer yards will be installed around the north, east and west sides of the property.

Catalina Springs Memory Care is owned by Frontier Management of Portland, Oregon. The company noted it plans to open a leasing office in the Oro Valley Marketplace in July and that the memory care facility itself will be open in December.

Copper Health Oro Valley is an extended and respite care facility that will include memory care when the facility opens later this year, said Heidi Foglesong, director of communications for CopperSands Inc. in Phoenix, the parent company of Copper Health Oro Valley.

Copper Health Oro Valley purchased an existing building at 1119 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., and Foglesong said, “is constructing a state of the art facility that will have 36 beds, all in private rooms and operate 24 hours a day.”

Foglesong noted that the facility will provide a bridge from hospitalization to a home-like environment for individuals needing around-the-clock care. 

Its medical model, she pointed out, is an alternative to a traditional skilled nursing facility. By providing transitional care rehabilitation and therapy, Foglesong added, re-hospitalization often can be avoided.

The largest memory care facility planned for Oro Valley is the All Seasons Senior Care Facility proposed for the east side of Innovation Park Drive, a quarter mile north of Tangerine Road.

As proposed, All Seasons Senior Care will sit on 9.2 acres and consist of 177 beds — 82 assisted living and 95 independent living — in 11 buildings covering 234,055 square feet of floor area. Building heights will range from 18 to 36 feet and the project will have 228 parking spaces. The facility will be adjacent to Oro Valley Hospital.

The project, which is in Rancho Vistoso Campus Park/Industrial (CPI) zoning, will follow the town’s Economic Expansion Zone (EEZ) review process, Arellano pointed out, which entails administrative review and approval of the architectural and site designs. The Town of Oro Valley recently hosted an open house for interested citizens to get information about the project and have questions answered.
