A makeover for the Omni

The Omni Tucson National Resort became a familiar site for those who ventured out each February to enjoy the Tucson Open golf tournament.

It's been a few years since the popular PGA event was held at the Northwest course, but locals have another reason to revisit the resort – namely, its recent completion of a $30 million renovation.

Makeovers in the ballrooms, meeting rooms and spa give the spaces a more up-to-date look. The 600-square-foot mini-suite guest rooms near the pool have luxurious touches, modern decor and four-room bathrooms (bathtub and sink, shower and toilet, walk-in closet and additional vanity area). Outside the suites, intimate seating areas with fire pits provide another kiss of luxury.

First-time visitors to the new infinity edge pool gaze at its lavishness. The adjacent snack bar welcomes guests with the smell of grilled offerings, and the private cabanas invite relaxation. While many resorts charge for the use of cabanas, at the Omni they're free — with privacy curtains, ceiling fans and flat-screen TVs.

An expanded flagstone patio flanking Legends Bar and Grill – the casual dining choice on the ground level – reflects the outdoor entertaining spaces seen in upscale home magazines. A Southwestern style fireplace and widely spaced furniture allow diners to enjoy the night air while the smell of freshly cut grass drifts in from the finishing hole.

Upstairs, Bob's Steak & Chop House has moved into the former Catalina Grille. Its terrace offers vast views of the verdant fairways and shimmering ponds below, backed by the Santa Catalina Mountains. Friday nights on the terrace are special with entertainment by jazz vocalist Joe Bourne and happy hour prices on select drinks and appetizers.

Omni management is offering a hot weather deal good through Labor Day. Sizzling Summer Match Play gives guests on-site credit to use during their visit. For every dollar spent on accommodations, the resort will match that in spa, golf or dining.
