Omaha 20 Tucson 3 - Sunday

WP: Davis (7-2) LP: Hynes (6-9) S: None Time: 3:07 Attn: 2,852

The Omaha Storm Chasers pounded 33 hits in their 20-3 victory over the Tucson Padres Sunday, falling four hits shy of a Pacific Coast League record for team hits in one game. The Storm Chasers had two players collect five hits and four players with four hits each in the rout. The 20 runs were the most allowed by the Padres since April 10 against Sacramento, when Tucson surrendered 18. The Storm Chasers walked only once, a free pass issued by Sawyer Carroll, who came in from the outfield to pitch a scoreless ninth inning.

Omaha sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the second, accounting for eight runs on eight hits. Mitch Maier smacked a two-run home run into the right field bullpen in the inning, his third long ball of the year.

The Storm Chasers added seven more runs in the top of the third for a 15-0 lead. Alexis Lara and Padres’ manager Terry Kennedy were ejected in the inning after Lara threw a pitch behind Omaha center fielder Wil Myers moments after both benches had been warned. After a pitching change, Myers blasted a three-run home run down the left field line.

The Padres got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third with three runs of their own. Daniel Robertson hit an RBI double to left and Beamer Weems hit a sacrifice fly for the first two runs. Jeremy Hermida brought Robertson around for the final run with a two-out single to center field.

Doug Davis earned his seventh win for the Storm Chasers, going six innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and three runs. Tucson starter Colt Hynes went 1.2 innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs. Carroll became the first Tucson position player to take the mound since Anthony Contreras pitched on Sept. 5, 2011 at Reno.
