The high school football season was in full swing for its third week of action with dominating performances by the Mountain View Mountain Lions and the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks. Meanwhile, the rest of the pack is still finding their stride as they look to improve for their fourth game of the season.
The Mountain Lions went on the road to visit the Desert View Jaguars where they would roll over them with the final score, 50-0. Clearly never a close game, Mountain View advances to a 3-0 record as they look ahead to a tough opponent in Salpointe Catholic (3-1) on Friday.
Ironwood Ridge also advanced to a 3-0 record after they defeated the Tucson High Badgers 42-14. The game was loaded with turnovers, nine in total, but was ultimately taken over by Nighthawk tailback, Anthony Braunreiter who ran for his third consecutive 100+ yard game including four touchdowns. Ironwood Ridge moves on to play the Cholla Chargers who should be a comfortable win for the Nighthawks,
The Marana Tigers fell to a 0-3 record following their 44-26 loss to the Rincon Rangers. The Tigers look ahead to a fairly even match up on Friday against the Tucson Badgers who fell to a 1-2 record after their loss to Ironwood Ridge.
For the first time since 1999, the Canyon Del Oro Dorados have fallen to a 0-3 record after a 22-7 loss at Cesar Chavez. The 1999 season concluded with a 0-10 record. The key to avoiding that this year is to “stick together and battle next week” according to head coach Dustin Peace. The Dorados were nearly shut out against Cesar Chavez scoring in the final minute of the game. Nonetheless, it doesn’t get any easier for the Dorados as they play a 3-0 Williams Field team who has outscored their opponents 113 to 34 so far this season.
For the Pusch Ridge Lions, it has been all tough opponents taking on teams such as, Joy Christian and Arizona Luthern Academy who beat the Lions this week 56-18. After being shut out in the first half, the Lions responded with two third quarter touchdowns before Arizona Lutheran finished their scoring rampage. Pusch Ridge faces possibly their easiest opponent thus far as they play the 0-3 Tanque Verde Hawks on Friday.
