For the second year in a row, Ironwood Ridge High School will be hosting a summer basketball camp in June for boys between third and fifth grades and girls between third and eighth grades.

The camp will focus on Ironwood Ridge’s values of teamwork, improvement, discipline and resilience through working on the fundamentals of basketball. Campers will work on ball handling, shooting, defending, lay-ups, footwork and different guard and post moves through drills and competitive games.

The first week of camp will run June 3 through June 6 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and include third through fifth grade boys and girls.

The second week will be June 10 to June 13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and only include girls between sixth and eighth grades.

Nikki Simpson, head coach of the Ironwood Ridge girls’ high school basketball team, is heading up the camp along with her assistant Holly Broberg. Both have had more than 10 years of experience coaching basketball either at the middle school, high school, club or collegiate level. Ironwood Ridge high school players will also help with the camp.

The camp cost $75, which includes instructional basketball drills and fundamentals, camper of the day awards and a camp t-shirt.

Proceeds will benefit the Ironwood Ridge girls’ basketball team.
