Pima men

The men’s soccer team got back on track on Saturday beating South Mountain Community College 6-0 at the West Campus.

Tyler Terrell (Barry Goldwater HS) had a hat-trick for the Aztecs. With Pima up 2-0, Terrell helped widened the lead with goals in the 32nd, 36th and 48th minutes. He has four goals on the season.

The Aztecs had been shut out the last two games but they got on the board early when Fabian Romero (Sunnyside HS) scored with an assist from Jacob Green (Sabino HS) in the 9th minute. Romero struck again in the 13th with an assist from JC Henson (Buena HS). Enrique Alvarez (Flowing Wells HS) scored his first goal of the season in the 90th.

The Aztecs out-shot South Mountain 21-4 for the game. Goalkeeper Hector Zamorano (Pueblo HS) played the second half and had one save. Tyler Wilson (Buena HS) started the game in the net but had no saves.

The Aztecs are off until Saturday Sept. 8 when they play GateWay Community College at Rose Mofford Sports Complex. The game will be at 4:30 p.m.

Women's soccer

The women’s soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season after beating South Mountain Community College 10-1 on Saturday at the West Campus.

Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) had a hat-trick for the Aztecs. She set the tone scoringthe first two goals of the game in the  9th and 22nd minutes. Her third goal came with an assist from Ashley Estrada (Mountain View HS) in the 53rd. Daisy Gallardo (Cholla HS) scored two goals of her own in the 44rd and 46th. Fisher and Gallardo each had one assist.

Estrada, Robyn Tolin (Cienega HS), Ivonne Herrera (Nogales HS), Camie Barbera (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Kalle Smith (Sahuarita HS) all scored a goal for Pima.

The Aztecs out-shot South Mountain 28-3 and goalkeeper Salina Joos (Sahuarita HS) had two saves. Starting goalkeeper Rebecca Lamanda (Sabino HS) played the first half behind the net but had no saves.

The Aztecs will play GateWay Community College next Saturday at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix. Their game will be at 7 p.m.
