Ironwood Ridge

The Nighthawks improved to 2-4 with a 41-13 win at Rincon/University (1-5) on Friday night.

Senior running back Adrian Brahler led an effective rushing attack for Ironwood Ridge, totaling 109 yards on 13 carries, rushing for a touchdown in the third quarter, and returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The Nighthawks ended the game with 252 yards on the ground, but the passing game was equally capable under the direction of junior quarterback Tyler D'Amore, who threw for 90 yards and three touchdowns, two to junior wideout Austin Ballard and one to junior receiver Trevor Wesley. D'Amore also rushed for a touchdown in the third quarter.

It took a fourth-quarter rally for the Tigers (2-2) to hold off the Pueblo Warriors (2-3) last Friday. Marana scored two touchdowns in the last 12 minutes to take home a 14-7 victory, both on one-yard runs, one early in the quarter from junior quarterback Robert Contreras, another from junior running back Louis Payne with 6:53 left in the game. Payne finished the game with 75 yards on 19 carries, and senior Terry Helsel added another 85 yards on 15 carries.

Pusch Ridge

After their season-opening loss to Phoenix Northwest Christian, Pusch Ridge has averaged 52 points a game over its last four contests. Last Friday's 51-24 win over San Manuel was no different. Senior quarterback Greg Schimke led the charge with 235 yards passing on 15 completions with two touchdowns, as well as rushing for 136 yards and another three scores. Junior running back Tyler Goodwillie ran for two more touchdowns, ending the game with 29 yards on seven carries. On the receiving end, junior Tyler Vance led all pass-catchers with five catches for 79 yards and junior Aaron Vaughn followed with three catches for 72 yards.
