The Pima Community College track & field teams competed in the first ACCAC Meet of the season at Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday and set four outdoor national qualifying marks.
Eddie Wilcox (Chandler HS) set an outdoor national qualifying mark in the high jump with a 6-feet, 8 inch jump that earned him first place. Kevin Snead finished in second place for the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 10.61. That mark also put him fifth in school history. Deante Gaines (Cibola HS) set his qualifying mark in the long jump finishing in fourth place with a jump of 23’10”. That jump put Gaines eighth all-time in school history. Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) took second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 1 minute, 03.52 seconds.
The women’s team finished 3-1 defeating Paradise Valley Community College, Mesa Community College and Glendale Community College but it lost to Central Arizona College.
Kaysee Pilgrim (Barry Goldwater HS), the NJCAA Indoor National Champion in the high jump, took second place in the outdoor high jump at 5’5”.
Brianna Rodriguez (Cienega HS) competed in three events for the Lady Aztecs. She took first place in the long jump with a jump of 17’8” and took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.54. Rodriguez was also part of the 4x400 relay team with Maggie Prillaman (Ironwood Ridge HS), Raelene Yocupicio (Rio Rico HS) and Tenishia Reynolds (Sabino HS). They took second place with a time of 4:06.67. Yocupicio also finished second in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:29.42.
In men’s competition, the Aztecs went 2-2 defeating Paradise Valley and Glendale but they lost to Central Arizona and Mesa.
Anthony Spendlove (Flagstaff HS) took second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:46.48. Gaines was second in the high jump at 6’6” while Khalil Hakim (Raymond Kellis HS) took second in the triple jump at 42’6”.
The Aztecs will compete in the Willie Williams Invitational at the University of Arizona on Friday and Saturday. Competition begins on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
