The Pima Community College track & field teams competed in the ACCAC Conference Meet No. 2 at Glendale Community College on Saturday.

The men’s team finished tied for first place with Central Arizona College with 92 points. The Aztecs defeated Mesa Community College, Scottsdale Community, Glendale Community College and Paradise Valley Community College. They are 8-1-1 in conference meets this year.

Caleb Herrera (Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) took first place in the 5000-meters race with a time of 17 minutes, 05 seconds while Labriel Leach (Catalina HS) finished first in the 400 hurdles at 53.71. Aaron Orduno (Dobson HS) had a busy afternoon taking second place in the hammer throw (46.8 meters), discus (43.36 meters) and shot put (14.17 meters) events. Lucas Ruiz (Flowing Wells HS) finished in second place for the 1500-meters race with a time of 3:58.8. Jose Rojas (Rio Rico HS) competed in the steeplechase and took second at 10:08. Stuart Landis (Corvallis HS, MT) was second in the javelin with a throw of 54.4 meters.

Deante Gaines (Cibola HS) took second place in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.69 meters and along with Lance Ross (Flowing Wells HS), Ruben Canastillo (Buena HS) and Khalil Hakim (Raymond Kellis HS), took second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 42.68.

The women’s team finished second with a score of 78 points behind Central Arizona, who took first with 97 points. The Aztecs are 8-2 in conference meets.

Marlee Sherwood (Mesa Mountain View HS) was the only athlete to earn a national qualifier as she took first place in the Triple Jump at 11.65 meters. Nikki Regalado (Cienega HS) crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 4:56.1 for the 1500-meter race. Aly Haskell (Empire HS) took first place in the 400-meters race with a time of 56.73. Esther Estrada (Nogales HS) finished second in the 5000-meter race with a time of 20:27. Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) was second in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.37 and along with Makaela Pratt (Willow Canyon HS), Diona Johnson (Buena HS) and Haskell, took second place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 48.94.

The Aztecs will compete in Triton Invitational at the University of California-San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. on Friday and Saturday.
