PCC Softball Gets Swept by Eastern Arizona


The Pima Community College softball team (15-9, 10-8 in conference) couldn’t get its bats working on Saturday as the Aztecs dropped its second straight doubleheader. It scored two runs in their two games against Eastern Arizona College.

The Aztecs dropped the first game 3-1. Eastern scored one run in the 1st inning and two in the 3rd. Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) got the Aztecs on the board in the 6th inning with an RBI single that scored Cynthia Pelayo (Vision HS). Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) took the loss and dropped to 7-6 on the year. She gave up three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and two walks.

In the second game, the Aztecs lost 11-1 in five innings after Eastern scored four runs in the 1st and 3rd innings to help it pull away. Victoria Mariscal (Douglas HS) hit a fielder’s choice RBI that scored Ortiz in the 2nd inning for Pima. Corrie Ward (Pusch Ridge Christian Academy HS) took the loss and dropped to 1-1 on the season. She pitched two innings giving up seven runs (six earned).

The Aztecs will play at Arizona Western College on Tuesday in Yuma. The first game of the doubleheader will start at noon.
