The men’s soccer team (13-7-2) feel behind and couldn’t catch up on Thursday as it lost to No. 1 seed Yavapai College 5-2 in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Semifinals in Prescott Valley.

Down 2-0, the No. 4 seeded Aztecs got on the board after Michael Bonda (Palo Verde HS) scored on a cross-pass from Yahya Kane (Al Baraka, Mauritania) in the 44th minute. In the second half, down 4-1 Pima responded when Roberto Zatarain (Ironwood Ridge HS) in the 66th. Tanner Bryant’s (Sabino HS) inbound from the corner and Fabian Romero’s (Sunnyside HS) back-heel kick towards the net, set up the goal.

The Aztecs were outshot 32-6 for the game and Ben Eyde (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished with eight saves.

The Aztecs will lose nine sophomores but have 20 freshman on the team.
