The Pima Community College football team (1-2, 1-2 in conference) struck first but Mesa Community College took over in the second half on Saturday as the Aztecs fell 41-20 in its home opener at Kino Stadium.
Kevionte Alexander (Rincon HS) got the Aztecs on the board in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run. Mesa responded with 26 unanswered points. The Aztecs cut into Mesa’s lead in the third quarter when quarterback Jack Nykaza spun away from a tackle and scored on a keeper play for 21-yards. The Aztecs would score again in the fourth quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by Shahid Hoover. The Aztecs were outscored in the second half 29-14.
Kendall Huey had a fumble recovery for the Aztecs and Mitch Fischer (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Isaac Chacon (Canyon del Oro HS) each had an interception.
The Aztecs will host Snow College at Kino Stadium next Saturday at 7 p.m. Snow College has dropped its last two games.
