The first week of the District 5 Little League All-Star tournaments are over and things are really starting to take shape. After a full week and a busy weekend one champion has been crowned, and the championship brackets are set.
The Final Four for the 9-10-year old baseball All-Stars does not include any of the area teams. CDO was eliminated by Marana 9-0 in the Elimination Bracket. CDO was shut-out in their two losses, but scored 25 runs in a win over Santa Cruz LL.
Marana was eliminated on Saturday with a 9-8 loss to Tucson Mountain.
Like Marana, Thornydale was one win away from the championship bracket, but lost 10-6 to Western on Saturday. Western actually eliminated two other area teams, first beating Continental Ranch 14-13 on Wednesday, then beating Canyon View 13-2 on Friday.
Two area teams are still alive in the 10-11 All-Star bracket and will play each other on Monday night. CDOO and Continental Ranch will meet at 5 p.m. at Kreigh Park, field No. 1.
Both teams emerged unscathed from bracket play and the winner is just one win away from the championship in the double elimination tournament.
Thornydale was eliminated on Friday night falling 15-13 to Western.
Thornydale and CDO made it to the championship bracket in Majors baseball, but Thornydale eliminated CDO on Saturday night, beating them 11-7. Thornydale now meets Coronado on Monday in an elimination game. The winner will meet Western, and will need to win two games to win the title.
Thornydale plays at 6:30 at Udall Park, field No. 3.
CDO eliminated Canyon View. They beat them 12-8 in the first round of the tournament, then after Canyon View beat Marana in the Elimination Bracket, they fell again, 13-1, to CDO. Marana went 0-3, dropping their first two games, then falling in the Consolation Bracket.
Thornydale is one win away from a 9-10 softball championship. Thornydale has won their first two games and need just one win in two tries to be crowned champions. Tucson Mountain, who already have a loss to Thornydale, have to win two straight to take the title.
Canyon View was the third team in the bracket, but were eliminated with two straight losses.
Continental Ranch won the 10-11 softball title beating Marana in the best of three-game series. Continental Ranch won game one 5-1, but Marana took game No. 2 6-4 to force a winner take all game three.
The third and deciding game was all Continental Ranch, as they won the title 12-1. They will advance to the state title tournament in Anthem, AZ beginning on July 16.
