PCC Softball Splits Games at Deanna Mauer Classic

The Pima Community College softball team (19-13) split its final two games of the Deanna Mauer Classic on Saturday in Casa Grande.

The Aztecs lost in extra innings 4-2 after Clackamus Community College (OR) scored two runs in the 8th inning. Stephanie Ramirez (Benson HS) tied the game at 2-2 with her hit in the 7th inning scoring Noelle Medina (San Manuel HS). Medina (San Manuel HS) finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) took the loss and dropped to 8-10 on the year giving up four runs (three earned) off five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

In its second game of the day, The Aztecs scored two runs each in the 5th and 6th innings to pull away and beat Odessa College (TX.) 6-1. Corrie Ward (Pusch Ridge Christian Academy HS) pitched a complete-game giving up one run off nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. She improved to 2-1 on the season. Alyssa Guevara (Cienega HS) finished 1 for 3 with a 2-run RBI double in the 5th inning. Alvarez helped increase the lead with a 2-run homer in the 6th inning. Cynthia Pelayo (Vision HS) finished the game 3 for 3 with a double.

The Aztecs will get back to conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Prescott to face Yavapai College.
