The 2011 high school basketball team officially gets under way this week, with local teams getting ready to start the drive toward the ultimate goal of a state championship.

The Mountain View High School girls’ team played Tuesday night, traveling to Tucson High School. Results of the game were not available at press time.

The Lady Mountain Lions had a big year in 2010, finishing 25-3 overall.

The girls’ first home game is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 29 against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, stating at 6:30 p.m.

The Mountain View boys’ team will start the season next week, hosting Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on Tuesday, Nov. 29, starting at 8 p.m.

In 2010, the boys’ team struggled, finishing 6-18 overall.

The Marana and Ironwood Ridge girls’ teams faced each other Tuesday night. While results were not available at press time, Marana finished last season 17-7, and the Lady Nighthawks are looking to build on last season’s 24-6 record.

After finishing last season 17-11, the boys’ team will travel to Tucson High School on Tuesday, Nov. 29 for the season’s first competition.

The Canyon Del Oro girls’ team also has a few more days of preparation, with the first game coming next week against Catalina Foothills. The first home game is slated for Dec. 1 against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, starting at 8 p.m.

Last season, the CDO girl’s team finished 11-12. The Pusch Ridge girls were 20-6.

The CDO boys traveled to Rincon High School Tuesday night. They will host Catalina Foothills in the first home game of 2011 on Tuesday, Nov. 29, starting at 7 p.m.

The CDO boys were 16-13 last season.
