The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (6-3, 2-1 in conference) swept through doubles competition and controlled the singles in its 8-1 win on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.

Kari Emery (Flowing Wells HS) had to fight back in her match but she was able to defeat Madison Porter in the third- set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the No. 2 singles match. Along with doubles partner Helen Altieri, they shut out Julia Marcenco and Savannah Skarda in the No. 1 doubles match 8-0. Altieri went on to beat Marcenco at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2.

Julienne Cananea (Bradshaw Mountain HS) and Helena Meyer (Nogales HS) fought hard to win the No. 3 doubles match 8-5. Cananea won her No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-3. Torie Wake (Long Peak HS) and Amy Beeston (Lehi HS) won their No. 2 doubles match 8-3. Wake won her No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-2. Vivian Pierson (Catalina HS) won her No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-3.

The Aztecs will be in Los Angeles for the California Tournament on Mar. 11-14.
