The Pima Community College baseball team (22-24-1, 12-18 in conference) found its offensive in the second game on Tuesday but couldn’t overcome Eastern Arizona’s pitching in the first game.
Keith Zuniga (Nogales HS) threw six great innings but the offense couldn’t come through in Pima’s 1-0 loss in the first game. Zuniga (5-4) gave up one run (no earned) on four hits with one strikeout and no walks on 67 pitches. Bryant Muñoz, Alec Beyersdorf (Catalina Foothills HS) and Juan Gamez (Cienega HS) each had a hit for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs scored four runs in the late innings to pull away from Eastern Arizona and win the second game 6-3. The Aztecs scored two each in the 8th and 9th innings. Beyersdorf and Jesus Arvizu (Palo Verde HS) each had two RBIs while Dylan Dyson finished 1 for 1 with an RBI. Luis Robles (Flowing Wells HS) finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and Sergio Ortiz (Sunnyside HS) drew two walks and scored a run for the game. Kyle Becerra (Marcos de Niza HS) finished 1 for 3 with a run scored and a walk.
Hyrum Formo (Hayden HS) got the win (4-3) after pitching seven innings giving up two runs (two earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Jake Cole (Sahuaro HS) earned his third save of the year after pitching the last two innings giving up one run on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
The Aztecs will be home at the West Campus on Thursday when they host a doubleheader against Yavapai College. The first game will begin at noon.
