The women’s basketball team wasn’t hard to miss at the Fall Harvest Festival at Richardson Elementary School on Friday night as the Aztecs volunteered at different booths and brought smiles to many kids.

This was the sixth year Coach Todd Holthaus and his team had been a part of this event.

“I’m always proud to see our girls give back to the people of Tucson,” Holthaus said. “They work hard in the classroom and on the court, but it’s cool to see them do their part in the community.

“Nothing makes me prouder as their coach to hear members of our community say, ‘Your girls are wonderful. Thanks for having them help us.’ It puts the focus on being good neighbors instead of good players.”

Sophomore guard DJ Davis (Tolleson Union HS) saw this event as more than being out in the community.

“Giving back to the community and especially helping out younger kids means a lot to me because they look up to us and we should be role models for the younger generation of Tucson,” Davis said.

Sophomore center A’jha Edwards (Tombstone HS) worked the bowling section of the festival.

“I had fun especially with the bowling. It’s harder than you think,” she said.

Rachel Williams (Cesar Chavez HS), a freshman guard and forward, enjoyed her first time out in the Tucson community.

“Tonight was a great way for our team to interact with the community,” Williams said. “Since I’m new here, it was great to see some smiling kids. It felt good to give back.”
