The Pima Community College track and field teams competed in the first ACCAC Conference meet of the season on Saturday at Central Arizona College in Coolidge.

In team competition, the men’s and women’s teams finished 4-1 with both losing to host Central Arizona. The Aztecs defeated Scottsdale Community College, Mesa Community College, Glendale Community College and Paradise Valley Community College.

Alejandro Valencia (Rio Rico HS) took first place in the 3000 meter steeplechase and his finish ranked him No. 1 in the country with a time of 9 minutes and 31.48 seconds. Teammate Luis Gonzales (Buena HS) took fourth and his time of 9:54.71 earned him a national qualifying time. Labriel Leach (Catalina HS) earned a national qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.40 which ranked him No. 4 in the country.

Aaron Orduno (Dobson HS) took first place in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.54 meters. He also placed 2nd in the shot put (14.92) and the discus throw (42.95). Stuart Landis (Corvallis HS) placed second in the javelin with a throw of 56.19 meters. Eddie Wilcox (Chandler HS) placed second in the high jump with a mark of 2.08 meters while Deanate Gaines (Cibola HS) took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.14 meters.

Nikki Regalado (Cienega HS) set a qualifying mark in the 1500 meter race. She finished with a time of 4:56.04 which placed her No. 2 in the country. Regalado also took first place in the 5000 meter race with a time of 19:54.48. Aly Haskell (Empire HS) finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.73. Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) placed second in the high jump with a 1.51 meter leap.

The Aztecs will continue to try to set and improve on national qualifying marks when they compete in the Puma Outdoor Distance & Multi-Meet from Thursday-Saturday at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.
