The UA track teams wrapped up competition at the 2008 Pac-10 Conference Championships with a pair of eighth-place finishes at Tempe’s Joe Selleh Track on Saturday.

Each squad scored 65 points. That placed the men within 16.5 points of fourth place, and the women 15 points out of the top five.

“In meets like this you can’t have mistakes,” assistant coach Craig Carter said. “But overall, the mentality and attitude of these kids was a whole lot better (than in the past).”

Zack Lloyd posted one of the Wildcats’ top performances, claiming the conference title in men’s shot put with a personal best throw of 21.03 meters (69 feet) on Friday.

The mark is the top collegiate throw nationally this season, and lands Lloyd atop the UA’s all-time best list.

The UA also had one other conference champ, in the women’s high jump. Liz Patterson dominated her competitors with a best jump of 1.88 meters (6’ 2”). Patterson set a personal record in the event by one centimeter and cleared each attempt on the first try, before missing the 1.9 meter mark.

Overall, Oregon’s men took the top slot with 144.5 points, while Arizona State’s women won their bracket with 186.5 points.
