The women’s soccer team (11-6) gave itself a cushion in the first half scoring three goals as it defeated Mesa Community College 4-1 on Thursday at the West Campus’ Aztec Field. Cami Barbera (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored two goals and Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) had a goal and an assist for the Aztecs.

Fisher (Sahuaro HS) got the Aztecs on the board with her goal in the 21st minute. Barbera (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored her first goal in the 25th with an assist from Ashley Cardenas (Tucson HS). Kamree Cady (Sahuaro HS) scored Pima’s third goal of the half in the 40th. Mesa cut Pima’s lead to 3-1 but the Aztecs responded when Barbera knocked in a shot that was crossed by Fisher.

Pima outshot Mesa 18-7 and Erika Heredia (Sabino HS) finished with five saves. Rebecca Lamanda (Sabino) came in late in the second half and had one save.
