Pima Community College jumper Kaysee Pilgrim (Barry Goldwater HS) came away with a National Championship for the women’s track & field team on Saturday in the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in New York.

Pilgrim was tops in the high jump finishing with a jump of 5-feet, 7-inches which set a new Pima indoor school record.

“She is my first jumper to win a national championship in the seven years I’ve been at Pima,” Pima jumpers coach Chad Harrison said. “Kaysee Pilgrim, along with the rest of the team have worked hard every day. Kaysee did extra work on her own. She believed she could win it, believed in the program and trusted me and the training staff.”

Heidi Lopez (Sunnyside HS) broke her own Pima indoor school record in the one-mile run finishing in seventh place with a time of 5 minutes, 19.79 seconds.

The Lady Aztecs finished with a team-score of 28 points which put them in 10th place out of 27 teams. They were also the top finishing team from Arizona.

The men’s track & field team finished with a team score of 5.5 points. That put them in 25th place out of 28 teams.

The Aztecs track teams will compete in the first ACCAC outdoor meet of the season at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix next Saturday. The meet will start at 10:00 a.m.
