For the third straight match, the volleyball team (11-8) had found itself competing for a fifth set tie-breaker and the Aztecs prevailed for the second straight time defeating Scottsdale Community College 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 13-25, 15-12 on Friday at the West Campus’ Aztecs Gym. Pima also kept its undefeated home winning streak alive.
After dropping the first set, the Aztecs stormed back scoring seven straight points to take the second set. Neither team led by more than three points in the third set and Kaylee Rakowski (Sahuarita HS) had the final kill that put the Aztecs up 2-1 in the match. After dropping the fourth set, Pima came back and never trailed in the final set to win it.
Cheryl Montague (Academy of Tucson) led the team with 16 kills while Julia Escarcega (Rincon HS) and Shaysea Alba each had nine kills. Alba also contributed with four blocks and three aces. Courtney Pitts (Catalina Magnet HS) had 21 digs and two aces. Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) finished with 49 assists, six kills and four blocks.
The Aztecs have won nine of its last 10 matches. They will be back at the West Campus next Friday to host Phoenix College at 7 p.m.
