It’s hard to stand out among a team as talented as the Pusch Ridge Little League softballers.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, CDO freshman Kayla Bonstrom found a way.

Bonstrom pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and whacked three hits — including a two-run rally-sparking double — during the girls 10-4 Junior Softball World Series Championship win over Puerto Rico.

“It was amazing,” Bonstrom said. “I had to calm down and let it all fall into place.”

Pusch Ridge entertained a 4-4 tie headed into the bottom of the sixth, in Kirkland, Wash. The girls then exploded — their custom throughout the tournament—for six runs and cruised toward the pennant.

“I really didn’t get nervous,” said coach Robb Wenzel. “We just kind of jumped on them and broke the game open.”

The future’s wide open, also, for the Pusch Ridge girls. Almost the entire team will be back next season, and the team’s top hitter has two years left.

“There’s a lot of good things that can happen,” Bonstrom said. “And we’re looking forward to that.”
