The Junior Golf Association of Arizona and the Ricki Rarick Junior Golf Program will be hosting its annual Tucson City Junior Championship at The Randolph Golf Complex, competing on the Dell Urich Golf Course and the Randolph North Golf Course, on May 28 and 29. The tournament is sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores, longtime supporters of the JGAA and youth sports. Over 200 of the finest junior golfers, ages 6-18 are expected to tee it up. Tee times begin at 6:30 AM on both days and the event is open for spectators.

As is tradition at the Tucson City Junior Championship, the Tucson Conquistadores and the JGAA will be awarding an individual with the Michael J. Harris Core Values Award. Dedicated to the memory of Michael J. Harris, a longtime member of the Tucson Conquistadores, a civic leader and philanthropist, this award will be given to the player who exemplifies the First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. In addition to an individual version, a permanent trophy will reside at the Tucson Conquistadores office and will be engraved with each year’s recipient’s name.

There is a very talented field of boys and girls from Southern Arizona, competing in this year’s Tucson City Championship, many of whom finished in the top-10 at last year’s event. Both defending champions in the Girls 15-18 Division, Taylor Hughes and Girls 13-14 Division, Haylin Harris will look to repeat. In the Girls 10 and Under Division, Raina Ports possesses great skills having qualified for the 2014 Drive Chip & Putt National Championship at Augusta prior to The Masters.

The competition in the Boys 15-18 Division is packed with great players, so it’s guaranteed to be a close finish. Chris Meyers has already won two events this year with the Desert Mashie Spring Championship and the Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic, so he’s going for a third. Other notable competitors, include David Rauer, he finished 2nd in the 2013 Tucson City Junior Championship and Ruben Ruiz, finished 2nd in the 2013 Tucson Conquistadores Classic. Additionally, Austin Rustand finished 2nd at the

2014 Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic and Frankie Wu, winner of the last year’s Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic to round out the highly skilled division.
