PCC Football Secures Nine Interceptions in Win Over Glendale


The Pima Community College football team (3-3, 3-3 in conference) did it on defense.

The Aztecs picked off the Glendale quarterbacks  for a record nine times; seven of them in the second half and beat Glendale Community College 33-17 win over Glendale Community College on Saturday at Tucson Magnet High School. Mitch Fischer (Ironwood Ridge HS) had two interceptions and returned one for an 82-yard score to Pima up 21-10 in the second quarter. The last score of the game was with 9:07 left in the game when Eddie Releford scored on a 19-yard interception return.

The other defensive touchdown for Pima came when Patrick Mulrow (Chapparal HS) scored on a 14-yard fumble receovery to get Pima on the board at 7-3 in the first quarter.

In the opening possession of the third quarter, Kendale Huey picked off a pass. On the first play from scrimmage for the Aztecs, Seth Ellis (Coolidge HS) scored on a12-yard touchdown run that put the Aztecs up 27-17.

The Aztecs have a bye week next week and will host Eastern Arizona College on Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Kino Stadium.
