Former shot putter Maren Seidler a big believer in the power of sport
Randy Metcalf/The Explorer, Maren Seidler delayed college for a year to compete in her first Olympic games, in Mexico City at age 17. On four Olympic squads, she never medaled, joking there was always some East Bloc athlete who "happily dusted" her. "I was sort of best of the rest of the world," she laughed.
Courtesy of Maren Seidler, Seidler threw a shot put over 35 feet when she was just 11 years old. The sport would take her to practically every country on the planet, traveling an easygoing "gypsy" lifestyle.
