A couple of things that have never happened took place last week during the 14th annual Mountain View Collegiate Women’s Golf Invitational in SaddleBrooke. For the first time ever, there was a hole-in-one and a playoff.

San Jose State University junior Jennifer Brumbaugh scored a hole-in-one on the 13th hole, which is a 160-yard par 3, on Friday.

During the two-day event, Brumbaugh tied for first place with Northwestern University junior Lauren Weaver. The two went on to a playoff where they both pared the first hole and then Weaver hit into a hazard and Brumbaugh won the hole by one stroke, finishing at seven under. Gabrielle Dominguez with Texas Tech finished third with six under.

As for the teams, Texas Tech won, finishing six under. Iowa State finished second with one over and Ohio State University finished third with seven over.

The tournament, which was hosted by Kansas State, Louisville and Missouri, took place in SaddleBrooke, where the players and coaches stay with residents within the community for the duration of the tournament. The residents, who volunteer around the course, also prepare dinner for the players and coaches who stay with them.

Over the years, the tournament has evolved into offering parents and spectators boxed lunches along with a beverage cart, which travels around the course offering sodas, beer and snacks for the spectators.

This year, 16 schools participated in the tournament. The schools were Colorado State, Gonzaga, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, San Jose State, Southern Methodist, Texas Tech and Wyoming.

Next year’s tournament is scheduled for March 22 and 23. It will take place on the Mountain View golf course in SaddleBrooke, and organizers encourage spectators to come out, support their alumni, all while watching Division I women’s golf.
