During the last few seasons, it’s not secret that the Marana Tigers have struggled. They went 0-10 last season, but in 2012, it’s a new attitude and new leadership that could push this young team to better season endings.

The Tigers had a tough first week, losing 25-18 to the Mountain View Mountain Lions.

However, what came out of the first week of play is that Marana isn’t a team that will give up. In fact, the Tigers put up a good showing in the fourth quarter, and despite a few bad plays almost mounted a comeback.

This new attitude could be thanks to newly-appointed Head Coach Andy Litten, who knows the obstacles that are ahead in turning an entire football program around.

“We’re kind of old-school here,” Litten said. “We’re just going to work real hard, and bring our system in. It’s really all about the kid buy-in. They’ve really bought in, and they understand the system. Plain old hard work is the one way you go about fixing the problems. A lot of the staff I have here was with me at Catalina Foothills, and we have the same philosophy here that we did there.”

The Tigers will rely on the leadership of junior starting quarterback Ben Honea on offense this season.

Senior Davon Roebuck has been voted the 2012 season team captain, and will be a team leader both on and off the field for the young Tigers’ team.

The Tigers have a rough road ahead, hosting the high-powered offense of the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks on Friday, and then traveling to Rincon on Sept. 14.
